Since its launch in April 2021 on TF1, the TV show HPI has become a real phenomenon in French television. On the occasion of the broadcast of its season 3, we invite you to discover six fun facts about the police comedy led by Audrey Fleurot.

The inspiration behind Morgane Alvaro, the colorful heroine of HPI, is one of the sons of Nicolas Jean, co-creator of the series, who is highly intellectually gifted. Interviewed by Le Point Pop, the screenwriter said: “I have wanted to create a character like him for a long time, a character who lives in a world that is not adapted to him.” Nicolas Jean then teamed up with Stéphane Carri and Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, and together, they gradually imagined the lead character and the HPI series.

In the world of TV shows, it’s not uncommon for a character to have a different name at first than the one they are known for in the end. In the case of HPI, the heroine was originally called Maud. But when TF1 became interested in the project, several changes were made by the writers. “This is how Maud became Morgane,” says Alice Chegaray-Breugnot to Le Point Pop, among other changes.

While Audrey Fleurot stands out in the HPI series, she is not the only one. This is also the case for her co-star, Mehdi Nebbou, who plays the role of Inspector Karadec. And for good reason, it is the actress herself who suggested to the producers to call on him. “I didn't want to get involved on this adventure without knowing the actor who was going to play my partner. So I took the liberty of proposing Mehdi,” Audrey Fleurot confided to RFM. “Fortunately, TF1 was completely thrilled with the idea. So I was very happy,” she said. The two actors had indeed played together in the TV show Spiral in the past.

Audrey Fleurot revealed in an interview for France Bleu that she maintains a very close relationship with the character she embodies the TV show HPI. "I have a rather special bond with Morgane because I put a lot of myself into it. I think about her very regularly. I can buy things for her. If I come across an improbable pair of earrings, I'll take them, or whatever handbag or whatnot," explained the star. That's not all, as Audrey Fleurot also says she thinks “quite all the time about what could happen to her the following season." After all, playing a heroine like Morgane Alvaro is a full-time job.

Since its launch in April 2021 on TF1, HPI has set a series of records. With an audience of 9.34 million viewers on average for its first two episodes, it recorded the best start for a French series broadcast on TF1 since Clem in 2010. The following week, its third episode gathered 10.5 million people, thus achieving the best audience for a series on French television since an episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel from March 2007. That's not all, as HPI has also become the most watched program in the history of French television in replay, with a score of 2.41 million viewers for episode 4 of its first season.

Thanks to its success in France, the TV show HPI will soon be adapted across the pond. A pilot episode for an American remake of the police comedy has been ordered by the television network ABC. Actress Kaitlin Olson, known for her role in the series Philadelphia, has been chosen to play the lead character Morgane in the American version of HPI. She will star alongside Daniel Sunjata (Grey's Anatomy and Graceland), who will star as Karadec.
