Read moreHalloween, Christmas, black and white,… showrunners like to give the watchers original episodes. Most of the time, they will create a musical episode, to make the fans dance and have fun. Here’s 6 musical episodes that marked the history of TV shows.
While the show starring Sarah Michelle Gellar became one of the top fictions in the 90’s, the 7th episode of season 6 really pleased the fans. Telling the story of a devilish legend of Broadway forcing every character to sing and dance, this musical chapter offers a special performance that fans didn’t really expect. Each song was written and composed by Joss Whedon, who created a real storyline through the music and allowed the show to be magical and filled with emotions.
On another note, Grey’s Anatomy seized the moment to introduce its musical episode after a major event in the show, called « Song beneath the song », at the end of season 7. After Callie and Arizona’s car accident, Callie falls into a coma. Her mind wanders out of her body and witnesses the singing events happening at Seattle Grace. If Sara Ramirez sings most of the songs, other actors from the well-known medical show played along to deliver a performance that could make you cry.
Here’s one musical episode nobody expected ! Called « My Musical », the 6th episode of the 6th season shows a patient, Patti Miller, who sees the world around her evolving like a Broadway musical. A perfect opportunity for the cast to sing. The result of this crazy idea was well appreciated by critics, even so that this episode was nominated for five Emmy Awards.
Between Archie Andrews and his guitar, the Pussycats or even Kevin and his passion for musicals, Riverdale had to have a musical episode. Only one though ? No, three ! Because with the Vixens and the Bulldogs it’s go big or go home, and they go big everytime. Seasons 2, 3 and 4 all have one singing chapter, where the characters free their anger, feelings and other worries. This allows the show to put aside the dark theme for the time of a party.
Who said God didn’t have a sense of humor ? In season 5 episode 10 of Lucifer, called « Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam », all characters are forced to sing to ease the all mighty’s day. We can hear Tom Ellis’ voice on many famous pop culture’s tops, giving us a memorable ride between frenzied choreos and velvet ballads. Another way to entertain fans with something new !
A TV show inspired by fairy tales wouldn’t be complete without a few songs ! Once Upon A Time’s creators decided to record a special episode for the end of season 6. All of the kingdom starts singing after Snow White and Charming make a wish to protect Emma, which makes the evil Queen furious. Eight songs were written in total to put together this magical episode. A unique chapter, giving the sweats to some of the actors, like Lana Parrilla who was very nervous at the idea of singing like they do on Broadway.
