Horror tv shows that make us shiver

21/07/2020

If the horror genre is not often represented in tv shows, some shows still give us nightmares... Urban legends, monsters, gory murders, everything is made to make us shiver. Let's focus on 6 of these shows.

The Haunting of Hill House
The Haunting of Hill House

As soon as it arrived on Netflix in 2018, it was already considered as one of the scariest tv series ever. Its tense atmosphere, its haunted manor full of ghosts, its efficient jump scares, nothing was left to chance to create terror amongst the ones who watched the Crain family live terrible and horrific things. A second season, The Haunting of Bly Manor, is scheduled to arrive on the platform in 2020, with another scary story.

Channel Zero
Channel Zero

An anthology created by Nick Antosca, Channel Zero brought urban legends from the internet, called creepypasta, to the screen during 4 seasons. The atmosphere is heavy throughout these 4 different stories. A monster made of teeth, an ominous house with no exit or even a strange door in a basement, Channel Zero doesn't give any way-out to the fans. If you have trouble breathing watching the episodes, it's normal.

American Horror Story
American Horror Story

Ryan Murphy created an authentic universe connected through 9 seasons but with different stories. They all have several actors and actresses in common, but every theme brings its share of cold sweats. From a haunted house to a monstrous circus, or a coven full of evil witches to a terrifying asylum. And the creator responsible for Glee and Nip/Tuck to name a few, is not yet done with horror stories. A tenth season is going to come out, along with a spin-off series untitled American Horror Stories.

Hannibal
Hannibal

It's not an easy thing to assume a role done perfectly by Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs, and yet, Mads Mikkelsen embodied a Hannibal Lecter just as captivating and scary. A psychological and disturbing game is set between him and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), but also with the ones watching the episodes. The murders are as gory as they are stylized and we would almost want to taste the serial killer's dishes. Almost.

Evil
Evil

The latest horror tv show was quick to become a valeur sûre. exorcism and evil spirits mixed with an oppressive atmosphere, a heavy music and current social issues. With Evil we dive in a universe that doesn't relieve us until it has divulged all its darkest secrets. A second season has already been ordered.

The Twilight Zone
The Twilight Zone

The original tv show, from the 60s, created and presented by Rod Sterling. If it mixes science-fiction, fantastic, fantasy and horror, it offers several nightmarish episodes. And if you are repelled by black and white images, know that they bring an even more horrific atmosphere to the show.
