Read moreThe Bold and the Beautiful is one of the most famous and popular series on American television. From its launch in 1987 on CBS to the present day, here are 6 key dates to know about the history of the legendary soap opera.
It was on this day that The Bold and the Beautiful was launched on American television. Thus, on March 23, 1987, the CBS network aired the very first episode of the soap opera, originally conceived as a spin-off of The Young and the Restless. And for good reason, both shows take place in the same universe, and it is not uncommon to see crossovers between The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless throughout the episodes.
Two years after its launch in the United States, the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful arrived in France. It was first broadcast on June 12, 1989, on the television channel Antenne 2 (which became France 2 in 1992). In its early days, the series was titled Top Models in France. It was only from September 17, 1990, that it was renamed The Bold and the Beautiful.
The iconic actor of the soap opera since the very beginning, Ronn Moss announced his departure from The Bold and the Beautiful on August 11, 2012, in the American press. The actor who portrayed Ridge Forrester left the show after 25 years of loyal service, much to the sadness of millions of fans around the world. However, his character did not disappear from the TV show as he was recast the following year and has been played by actor Thorsten Kaye since 2013.
Two months after Ronn Moss's departure was announced, actress Susan Flannery also revealed that she was leaving The Bold and the Beautiful after portraying the iconic Stephanie Forrester for 25 years. The writers then decided to have her character die on-screen, in an episode broadcast on November 26, 2012, on American television. Viewers witnessed a heartbreaking scene where Stephanie, suffering from lung cancer, took her last breath in Brooke's arms.
In the episode aired on May 18, 2015, on CBS, The Bold and the Beautiful introduced its first transgender character, Maya Avant. Present in the series since 2013 and portrayed by actress Karla Mosley, viewers discovered that she was born a man, under the name Myron. This revelation forever marked the history of the soap opera, especially as she became the first regular transgender character on a daily soap opera on American television.
A small revolution took place at the beginning of 2023 on French television, as after being broadcast for 32 years on France 2, the series The Bold and the Beautiful moved to TF1. Since January 2, 2023, the soap opera has been aired every day at 10:20 a.m. on TF1, just before The Young and the Restless.
