The end of the year is near, the ideal moment to make a list of all the shows that were very popular in 2021. Either thanks to their scenario, their impact or their incredible numbers, these 6 shows left their mark on 2021. Focus.

Squid Game
Squid Game

Squid Game, the South Korean TV show, definitely left its mark on 2021. More than a hit, the show smashed all of Netflix records, becoming the most-watched series of the streaming platform. The plot? People are drawn, due to their poor financial situation, to play kids games - in appearance innocent. Into the bargain, either a jackpot of 45,6 billions wons… Or death.

Mare of Easttown
Mare of Easttown

Limited series broadcasted on HBO, Mare of Easttown offers Kate Winslet the role of a detective sergeant, in a small town in Pennsylvania. While investigating a murder, this woman is gonna see her whole life fall apart. Far from being just an actress, Kate Winslet (unforgettable Rose from Titanic) is also one of executive producers on the show. Her performance has been critically-acclaimed, putting this limited series amongst one of the best of 2021.

Loki
Loki

Disney+ made a strong impact this year! Loki’s arrival made a splash amongst Marvel and Tom Hiddleston fans. The show is a huge turning point in the MCU since it introduces the idea of the Multivers which was, until then, only mentioned. Hiddleston reprised his role as Loki, God of Mischief, in an alternate universe.

Lupin
Lupin

Since January 2021, a French show gained a prominent place in Netflix most watched shows: Lupin. Based on Maurice Leblanc’s popular novels, Lupin follows the life of Assane Diop, a gentleman thief played by Omar Sy. Assane takes all of its inspirations from his model, Arsene Lupin, while trying to take revenge on the ones who accused his father of stealing a necklace years ago.

Fans are now waiting for the third season, on Netflix!

WandaVision
WandaVision

Led by Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, WandaVision charmed a larger audience than Marvel fans, for the first show on Disney+. The show is a true declaration of love for sitcoms since it explores the evolution of the genre since the 50s, each episode referring to a specific decade and TV show. Decors, atmosphere, images… Everything is thought through while we follow the daily-lives of these superheroes.

Arcane
Arcane

If you take a very popular video game, let’s say League of Legends, a French studio, like Fortiche and a famous streaming platform that transforms everything it touches (or almost) into gold and you have Arcane. Beautiful animated series, it follows the destiny of two sisters, Violet and Powder, in a brand new universe. Arcane is centered on political and familial conflicts. Already renewed for a second season, Arcane will probably leave its mark on the fans for a very long time.
