These series locations that make you dream

02/02/2021

While series usually rhyme with escapism, some offer genuinely stunning exotic adventures. With enchanting nature, dreamlike landscapes and journeys to the end of the earth, let's take a look at some filming locations that make viewers dream.

Vikings' Silk Road

Lakes, mountains, the sea and frosted forests, the Vikings series takes place primarily in the cold landscapes of Scandinavia. Nevertheless, the beginning of Season Six follows the route of Ivar the Boneless on the Silk Road and thus offers spectacular panoramas. The young man crosses the Zhangye Danxia Geological Park in Gansu Province, China. Waves of rock formations, as colorful as they are surreal, allow you to escape to a dreamlike universe.

True Detective's Louisiana

While the True Detective series is more unsettling than it inspires to dream, the landscapes of Louisiana give off a captivating feeling of the supernatural.  As poetic as they are horrifying, these enigmatic and swampy spaces offer the sensation of stepping into another world. A quiet and mysterious universe, where black magic and beauty vie with each other. In order to maintain this hazy and intense atmosphere, the creators of this HBO program chose to shoot in and around New Orleans. Adventurous fans can then follow in the footsteps of Rustin Cohle and Martin Hart to dive into the heart of this southern United States, so heavily loaded with history and legends.

Outlander's Scotland

With its green hills, chiseled stone castles and the scent of myth and magic, Outlander has undoubtedly won over a large part of the public with its incredible Scottish décor. The most curious fans can then come to the land of Jamie Fraser and discover its prettiest secrets. It is possible to visit Doune Castle, which is also known as “Castle Leoch” in the series, the city of Inverness or the ruins of West Kirk, better known as Black Kirk, in Culross. Craigh Na Dun's fairy stone circle, on the other hand, was created specifically for the series. So, it doesn't really exist, but was crafted near the village of Kinloch Rannoch, south of Cairngorms.

Game of Thrones' Croatia

Renowned for its sublime filming locations, Game of Thrones has particularly left a mark on audiences with the city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The HBO series set its cameras there to film the King's Landing scenes, taking advantage of its old stone buildings and ramparts to give the program the medieval style sought after. With its orange roofs, historic centre and gripping view of the Adriatic Sea, this destination has become extremely popular with Game of Thrones fans, who have rushed there to walk in the footsteps of Cersei, Tyrion, Daenerys and the other great figures of Westeros.

Sense8's Iceland

In recent years, Iceland has attracted more and more film and series shoots thanks to its unique and captivating landscapes. While most fictions love its ice sets, Sense8 chose to show another side of the island. The Netflix series thus accompanies young Riley on various trips and flashbacks across the country, including the breathtaking Reynisfjara Beach, famous for its black sand. Other places, such as Reykjavik and Hallgrimskirkja, are also spotlighted by the camera, much to the delight of the spectators.

Killing Eve's Italy

An internationally renowned hitman, Villanelle travels extensively in Killing Eve and especially in Europe, where she unpacks her bags very frequently. In season 2, the protagonist of the series treats herself with a short stay in Rome, showing the audience shots of exquisite beauty in the city, as in the ancient ruins. A little later, we find her in Tuscany in the middle of the hilly vineyards, under the warm sun of Italy. A good chance to travel by proxy and imagine your future vacation in the sun.
