These shows with incredible costumes

03/12/2021

A TV show is not only a scenario or actors. It’s also an atmosphere set thanks to decors, lights and costumes. And if some depict our everyday lives, others immerse ourselves in other eras with beautiful costumes. Focus on 6 of them.

Bridgerton
Bridgerton

Of course we’re starting with a period drama! How could we not talk about Shonda Rhimes’ latest hit, Bridgerton? By offering the audience a dive into the British regency, Bridgerton makes dresses waltz and each one is prettier than the next. The show has made approximately 7500 costumes total.

Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones

Even years after the end of Game of Thrones, it is hard to ignore the amount of work that was put into the making of the show’s costumes. Fans of the HBO series know it well, the producers left nothing to chance. So much that each costume tells a story. Either with little details, embroideries of the houses’ symbols or the color choices. Fun fact : they even used a carpet from Ikea.

Sweet Tooth
Sweet Tooth

Focus on the adorable dystopian show made by Netflix. We follow the life of young Gus, a boy who is half-human, half-deer. On his way to find his mother, Gus meets some amazing characters with incredible costumes. There’re, for example, these isolated teens who wear animal skulls and fur to dress up. Gorgeous!

Peaky Blinders

Change of scenery and storylines. Let’s go to England during the 20s! It is impossible to deny that Peaky Blinders influenced fashion. Thomas Shelby and his acolytes inspired masculine fashion with a wave of shaved heads and jackets. We cannot deny that when speaking about period costumes, Peaky Blinders has class!

The Crown
The Crown

The Crown’s difficulty resides in its timeline, its history but also its costumes that try to be as faithful to the originals as they can. While producing a period drama, you should beware of anachronisms. And we cannot find one flaw when it comes to costumes and make-ups from The Crown. Diana’s gorgeous wedding dress was recreated to a T in the fourth season of the show, and it necessitated approximately 4 months of work. Nothing less!

Euphoria
Euphoria

Here, there’s no dress meticulously created but the work done on the costumes has to be underlined. As soon as it landed on HBO, Euphoria seduced fashion lovers. With sophisticated and very well-thought looks that seem like they come from the creative brains of teenagers. Where Sam Levinson’s show distinguished itself from others is with the different makeups that can be seen. From the heavy use of glitter to neon eye-liners: to dive into Euphoria is to fall in a technicolor world beautifully mastered.
