Read moreWe know a lot of love stories in TV shows and if happy endings are common, sometimes the romance ends sadly. Let’s seen these six couples from TV programs who had the most devastating romance.
Matthew and Mary, the star couple of Downton Abbey, had a particularly trying time, until they came to a tragic end. From the moment they met, they had a magical connection, but through hubris and misplaced pride, they ended up drifting apart. And when their happiness finally seemed inevitable, death came to separate them. First it was Lavinia, Matthew's first fiancée, which left the poor man racked with guilt, then later, it was him. While they were recently married and had just welcomed their first child, Matthew died suddenly in a car accident. A traumatic event for the viewers, who therefore never got the happy ending they wanted for Lord Grantham's eldest child.
While some fans have waited a long time to see Daenerys fall into Jon Snow’s arms, everything fell apart when the young man discovered the identity of his real parents. Son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, he realized that the Mother of Dragons was actually his aunt. A terrible revelation, which destroyed their budding relationship forever. Faced with this disgusting truth, Jon immediately distanced himself, leaving the silver-haired queen heartbroken.
Since the beginning of Sex Education, fans have only dreamed of one thing: seeing Otis and Maeve together. A direction that the series almost took several times, before giving up by using a final upheaval. Numbers of fans screamed in front of their screen when Otis finally declared his flame to the young woman in a long romantic message, that Isaac deleted before she listened to it. We had to wait until season 3 to see a first kiss between the two characters, who then confessed their true feelings. The show seemed to be about to offer a happy conclusion to the two lovebirds, when Maeve got a scholarship to study in the United States. A new turn of events, which tore fans’ hearts…
Iconic duo of the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Alex and Jo remained married for many years. Their romance has thus accompanied the fans of the series throughout the seasons, until its brutal end in season 16. Gone away for work, the surgeon never came back to Seattle. He simply sent a letter to his wife to explain that he had decided to leave her to settle with Izzie, his first love, with whom he had two children. An extremely dry and violent request for divorce for the poor Josephine, who lost everything in a snap of the fingers.
Tumultuous and complicated, Susan and Mike's relationship has had multiple obstacles throughout the eight seasons of Desperate Housewives. The two characters have experienced moments of perfect happiness, but have often had to go through difficult times. Addiction problems, car accident, coma, financial troubles, their love was constantly tested by the writers of the show. So when Mike was murdered in the eighth and final season at their front door, it wasn't just Susan's heart that broke into a million pieces, but that of all the show's fans.
A perfect example of “opposites attract”, Phoebe and Cole shared an intense love story in Charmed, which unfortunately did not end very well. The young woman being a good witch and him being a demon, viewers were not surprised to see their divergent natures gradually separate them. Despite his feelings for Phoebe, Cole slowly sank to the dark side and left the Charmed Ones no choice but to kill him. It was Phoebe, herself, who ended Cole's life in a very moving moment.
