These TV Actors Grew Up on Camera

They started appearing on TV as children and have matured well since. From show to show, they have blossomed in front of the audience and have now become big on the small screen. Let's take a look back at these actors who grew up on the screen.

Cole Sprouse

We can say this is someone who was born an actor! When he was just one year old, Cole Sprouse was already on television. From 1993 to 1998, he played Patrick Kelly, in the ABC series Grace Under Fire. A few years later, spectators could see him again in the iconic sitcom Friends, where he played Ben Geller, Ross's son. Enough to try his hand at comedy before landing on Disney Channel with The Suite Life of Zack & Cody - then The Suite Life on Deck - where he co-starred with his twin brother Dylan. This sweet journey lasted six years in total, before he set off on new projects. Now, the 28-year-old plays the character of Jughead in the CW series Riverdale. A new page in his career where he ditched his golden hair for a darker and more mysterious look.

Zendaya

Landing in the small screen world at the age of 14, Zendaya first rose to prominence with the Disney Channel series Shake It Up. She played Rocky Blue, a teenage girl passionate about dancing, who made her dream come true by appearing on a TV show with her best friend CeCe (Bella Thorne). This first experience then propelled the young actress towards other projects, such as Black-ish on ABC or K.C. Undercover on the big-eared channel. In 2019, Netflix subscribers got to see her in The OA, but it was really the HBO series Euphoria that revealed her to the world. Deeply moving in the shoes of Rue, a drug addict and depressed teenager, Zendaya has touched the hearts of TV fans. Her performance won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Dylan Minnette

At only 9 years old, he had already been cast in one of the most popular shows of the time. In 2005, Dylan Minnette played the child version of the famous Michael Scofield of Prison Break. A striking first appearance, quickly followed by many small roles in successful programs, such as Grey's Anatomy, Supernatural or even The Mentalist. He then played David, the son of Jack Shephard in Lost, then that of Fitzgerald Grant in Scandal. In 2017, his career really went big when he landed the role of Clay Jensen in 13 Reasons Why. The Netflix series triggered a splash around the world and the American actor became a new TV star.

Alyssa Milano

Child star, Alyssa Milano quickly tasted fame with the ABC series Who's the Boss?. From 1984 to 1992, she played Samantha Micelli there, and it was easy for her to win the hearts of many fans. Later, she starred in Melrose Place, Darren Star's new creation, and then enjoyed real worldwide success with Charmed. Alongside Shannen Doherty, Holly Mary Combs, and then Rose McGowan, she embodied the alluring witch Phoebe Halliwell, endowed with the powers of premonition, levitation and empathy. A real grace-filled moment in his career, which lasted 8 years. Since then, the 47-year-old actress has appeared in several series, such as Castle, Breaking_In and more recently Insatiable on Netflix, where she plays Coralee Armstrong.

Hilary Duff

Little dazzling blonde, Hilary Duff quickly gained fondness from the audience with Disney Channel sitcom Lizzie McGuire. She took on the lead role at the age of 14 and embarked on the journey for three years. The young actress subsequently obtained small roles in various TV shows, such as Ghost Whisperer or Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, before returning to the spotlight with Gossip Girl in 2009. Thanks to the character of Olivia Burke, the American actress gave a boost to her career, which then got back into motion. Since 2015, she has played Kelsey Peters in Darren Star's series Younger, which is entering its seventh season on channel TV Land. As for the future, it still has some nice surprises in store. Soon, Hilary Duff will reprise her character as Lizzie McGuire in the Disney series revival. A great comeback which should please the fans.

Maisie Williams

While she has yet to fill her TV resume, Maisie Williams has truly grown up on camera. At the age of 13, she landed the role of Arya Stark in the HBO show Game of Thrones and then got in the spotlight of a real global success. From 2011 to 2019, she thus played the young rebel of Winterfell, whom the audience have seen evolve over the seasons. Alongside her work in Westeros, the young Briton also starred in Doctor Who in 2015, bringing the character of Ashildr to life. Then, when the wild game of ice and fire came to an end, Maisie Williams took to the big screen, including Josh Boone's The New Mutants and many more projects to come.
