Read moreTV shows are not all about the script, some of them benefit from magnificent aesthetics. And because the visual aspect is as important as the actors or the story, here are 6 TV series with a (totally) perfect aesthetic.
Based on Liane Moriarty's novel, Big Little Lies follows several wealthy housewives in their magnificent California houses. Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon or Zoë Kravitz play those characters with homes looking like they are straight from an interior design magazine. Big Little Lies is a true breath of fresh air thanks to its landscapes and its wide shots giving a sensation of wide open-spaces. Special mention for the shots on a sometimes unrelenting ocean.
Damon Lindelof is well-known for the special touch he gives to his shows. Watchmen, the latest, doesn't depart from that. Dark and meticulous, Watchmen is a loose adaptation of the eponymous comics. The show happens several years after the events of the graphic novel in a world where masked vigilantes try to wipe white supremacists out. Visually, nothing is left to chance in Watchmen. The whole aesthetic is perfectly done. Nine must-see episodes if you like tv shows with a great aesthetic.
Released in 2019 on HBO, Euphoria is a true visual jewel and one of the first ones of the genre centered on teens. In the show, we follow Rue, a young woman trying to overcome her addiction to drugs. Euphoria is a magnificent portrait of a fallen youth, depicted differently depending on the character. Violence and sex are showed without any subterfuge in a smokey atmosphere with touch of purple. We can also highlight the costumes that gave sparkly makeup a prominent place while starting a true trend. VIsually, between light and darkness, we are blown away!
True gem of dark British humour from Netflix (and England), The End of the F***ing World isn't just a hilarious show. It embarks the viewer on small British roads, in England's heartland, with its wide open-spaces and greenery. The show's aesthetic can sometimes resemble Wes Anderson's genius and we appreciate the meticulousness behind every shot. A delight!
Based on the eponymous novel by Sally Rooney, Normal People is an emotional show centered on Marianne and Connell's relationship, two opposite teens. The show is a perfect example of when the discourse is perfectly reflected by the image. If the script describes a raw love story, the camera plays with it. The whole gives us a magnificent show, meticulously made.
Real phenomenon of the past few years, Game of Thrones is amongst those breathtaking TV shows. Between spectacular battles scenes, Daenerys Targaryen's dragons or magnificent shots flying over the different cities of the show... This HBO show offers a true visual spectacle with every episode!
